Wings of Desire – Photographs

2018
My Breath is the central and most important component to my work. I have a constant struggle with
shyness, in particular talking about thoughts and feelings. In this work I have used self-portraits, both of my face and my hands, to convey the personal connection that is present. Using black and white 35mm film has allowed me to have physical contact during the process of creating these prints. In the darkroom I have selectively developed areas of the photographs using my breath.
The photographs produced have an abstract feel to them in which the subject of the photograph
may not be immediately obvious. Through this process I have been able to explore the idea of the
latent image and how something invisible still exists even if it cannot be seen. Even though I am often unable to voice my thoughts they do still exist and my artwork allows them to be transformed into having a visual presence.
